What is Cortrosyn^®:

Cortrosyn^® (cosyntropin) for Injection is a sterile Iyophilized powder in vials containing 0.25 mg of Cortrosyn^® and 10 mg of mannitol to be reconstituted with 1 mL of 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection, USP. Cortrosyn^® is indicated for the ACTH Stimulation Test which measures the ability of the adrenal cortex to respond to ACTH by producing cortisol appropriately; ACTH is a hormone produced in the pituitary gland that stimulates the adrenal glands. Administration is by intravenous or intramuscular injection.

Why is the ACTH Stimulation Test Performed?

This test is helpful in determining if the adrenal and pituitary glands are functioning normally. It is most often used when adrenal gland disorders, such as Addison's disease or pituitary insufficiency, are suspected.
